SKIN COLOR, COOKING SKILLS OR BRAINS?

The other night when I came home around 2030hrs my sister was watching Sony. Must be the typical a scene at almost every house hold at that time of the day. Time to watch the hindi series after a busy day of household chores for the ladies.

I also decided to take a seat then suddenly there came this advertisement of a new hindi series. It shows a young girl playing in the sun when her mom or granma calls her to get out of the sun all because she could get darker skin (cant a girl enjoy a little bit of sun and her childhood after all playing is also part of their development), then it showed a grown up stage of her, she was studying and again her mom/grams come and tells her to reduce the amount of studies and do more household work because according to her after a girl gets married her studies goes to waste and household/cooking skills only come in handy( is cooking skills only for girls, what about for guys who prefers to be independent or decides to go abroad for their studies and away from their mommies). What was all that about???

Does it mean us girls, especially Asian girls are chosen for their cooking skills and skin tones rather than her brains. A person may have a lighter skin tone but does it make them a better person or if the girl is a good cook does it mean that she has no evil inside? All these questions came into my mind

I myself was told almost the same by a loved one of mine “why are you studying so much when you get married , have children and you have to stay home and take care of your kids and what you study goes to waste” I was deeply surprised and saddened at the same time. I know I can’t blame her for saying that there is a huge generation gap between us, almost forty years difference and I don’t mind if I had to stay home to take care of my OWN CHILDREN. But what I believe is if a mother is educated it does make a difference in “tharubiyyathu” of their own children.

But if a person is only chosen for their beauty but has no values in life what happens to their kids? And by the way, what happens to girls who are neglected because they don’t fit into the typical criteria of skin deep beauty?
